It was time for me to pick up a new game for my Wii. I try to only purchase games I’m going to get a large amount of enjoyment out of in a short period of time because I have a short attention span and twenty minutes of video games at a time is all I can handle. I traded in a few games I wasn’t playing anymore and managed to earn enough credit to pickup Wii Punchout for $2. From all the reviews I had read it was a must buy, and after playing it for a while I agree that it is one heck of a video game. I’ll admit that I likely enjoy it more for the nostalgia factor. I get to take on all the old fighters I once did when I was a little kid. I can recall not being very good at Punchout at all when I was younger. In fact I remember it taking me a month to finally beat Piston Honda. Heck I remember my dad playing Punchout and having the same issues I did. That’s the only time I can recall my dad playing video games until recently when he tried out some Wii Sports with me the last time he was in town. Never fear all of the cheesy music is still there, remastered and updated of course. The graphics, for a Wii game, are pretty fantastic and the gameplay is perfect. I did get a lot better at Punchout as I aged and was able to beat Tyson eventually. Those skills have translated somewhat as after owning the game for two days I’ve defeated the Minor and Major circuits and am a few fighters away from winning it all. I’ve heard Donkey Kong fights in place of Tyson, but I haven’t gotten far enough to unlock him and confirm that’s the case. What I found more startling while I was debating the purchase of this game, was the amount of videos on youtube with people redoing portions of the music. |
